Harold PalmerHarold E. Palmer, 81, of Havana died Dec. 1, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Mason County, the son of Clyde and Mildred Williams Palmer. He married Carole A. Tarvin on April 28, 1951, in Sikeston, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Elizabeth (and Brian) Bohannon of Lewistown, Peggy (and David) Naff of Rushville, Dianne Palmer of Egg Harbor, Wisc., and Karen (and Mike) Snedeker and Randall (and Becky) Palmer, both of Havana; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Tarvin.

He served in the Illinois National Guard 44th Division, Battery B and was stationed on active duty in Camp Cooke, Calif., during the Korean War.

He retired from Illinois Power Company after 35 years of service. In his retirement, he owned and operated Floral Design in Havana with his wife and served on Havana City Council.

He was a member of Havana Church of Christ where he served in positions including, elder, board chairman and Sunday school teacher.

Services were held Monday at Havana Church of Christ. Burial was at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana was in charge of arrangements.
