John Peters

John Leroy Peters, 82, of Monmouth, formerly of Lewistown and Havana area, died at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008, at his home.

He was born Aug. 16, 1925, in rural Smithfield, a son of Raymond G. and Grace Cleer Peters. He married Lurabelle Ford on July 19, 1946. He later married Dorothy Entwhistle. She preceded him in death.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers and five sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Leanne (and Dave) Phillips of Knoxville and Lynn (and Jack) Danner of Bloomington; two brothers, James R. (and Alice) Peters of Brownsville, Texas, and Raymond “Bud” (and Jean Ann) Peters of Astoria; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He retired in the early 1980s from Canton Works of International Harvester after 31 1/2 years of service.

He was a member of United Auto Workers.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Danie deBeer officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in rural Canton.
