BESS M. (PEEL) PITTMAN

Bess Pittman

Bess M. Pittman, 78, of Colchester died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Eudora, Ark., a daughter of Herbert and Annice Griffus Peel. She married Dick Pittman on Feb. 14, 1945, in Lewistown. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Richard (and Linda) of Astoria and Randall (and Carol) of Colchester; one daughter, Robin Pittman of Colchester; one half brother of Texas; one half sister of Texas; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Norman "Red" McKean.

She was a secretary for Sears and Pumo Insurance and Jack Rimbery Agency. She then worked as a secretary at Western Illinois University for more than 20 years, first in the School of Business and later in the education department.

She was a charter member of Elygra Camping Club of Macomb.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Macomb.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service was held Saturday at Jones Mortuary with Rev. Wally Holt officiating. Burial of ashes was in Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospital Hospice.
