Lela Porter

Lela A. Porter, 92, of Ipava died at 9:25 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Astoria Gardens.

She was born Feb. 13, 1910, in Ipava, a daughter of Marshall D. and Alice LaRue Howell. She married Paul E. Porter on May 7, 1933, in Ipava. He died Feb. 16, 1968.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Myron Howell, and three sisters, Ruth Ann Brumett, Josephine Grafmyer and Margaret Prickett.

Surviving are two sons, Samuel (and Linda) of Ipava and William (and Nancy) of Vermont; two daughters, Katherine (and Norman) Miller of Table Grove and Mary Jo (and Donald) Keefauver of Lewistown; one brother, Phillip Howell of Ipava; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

She had been a school teacher for four years, teaching at rural Ipava and Table Grove schools.

She was a member of Ipava Presbyterian Church, the Willing Workers Club and Katherine Class Quilters.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at her church, where visitation will be 1 1/2 hours before. Rev. William Bodamer will officiate. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church or Ipava Rescue Squad.
