He was born Oct. 8, 1909, in Astoria, a son of James and Emma Brillhart Parr. He married Christine L. Weber on Oct. 8, 1933, in North Liberty, Ind. She died April 25, 1996.
He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin Hammond, two sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Rosalie (and Gene) Grove of Astoria; three granddaughters, Marilyn Shawgo of Astoria, Janet Graham of Havana and Chris Holmes of Havana; two grandsons, Randy Hammond and Kenneth Baker of Astoria; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was a farmer and a member of the Illinois Polled Hereford Association.
He was a member of Astoria Christian Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Astoria Rescue Squad or the McDonough District Hospice.
