Forrest E. Phillips, 71, of Astoria, died at 2:07 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 1996, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Rushville.

He was born June 25, 1924, in Kalkaska, Mich., a son of David and Anna (Weber) Phillips. He married Naomi Welker on April 17, 1943, in Hannibal, Mo. She survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Linda Phillips of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Mr. Phillips was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post 25 and attended the Astoria Christian Church for 18 years, serving as janitor part of that time. He had served two years in the army and six months in the European Theatre for the 13th Armored Division under Gen. Patton as an M-24 tank driver. He worked for Hyster Co. in Peoria until 1951 and farmed for 17 years. He retired from International Harvester in Canton in 1983 after 21 years of service.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
