Charles C. Powell Of Astoria Dies

Charles C. “Pete” Powell, 68, of Route 2, Astoria, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 1983, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

Born Jan. 14, 1915, in Avon, he was a son of Halleck and Alice V. Branson Powell. He married Hildreth Derry Aug. 28, 1937, in Wapello, Iowa.

Surviving are his wife; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Anders of Galesburg and Mrs. Velma Burr of Abingdon and one brother, Clyde Powell of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by one foster son and one brother.

He was a retired farmer, a member of Fulton County Farm Bureau, and former employee of Fulton County A.S.C. office in Lewistown. He also was employed with Skiles Fertilizer in Astoria and the Farm Service plant in Ipava.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
