Carol OrwigCarol Lee Orwig, 81, of Canton died at 11:25 a.m. Feb. 2, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Nov. 14, 1934, in Peoria, a daughter of Dayle and Elzada Baumgartner Markley. She married John Welker on Feb. 25, 1952, in Weldon, Ark. He preceded her on death on Aug. 18, 1997. She later married Gary Orwig on June 6, 2009, in Canton. He survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah (and Kerry Wade) Welker of Springfield, Ore., Ronda (and Charlie) Tarboletti of Bartlesville, Okla., and Patti Shoop of Ipava; one stepdaughter, Kandy (and Don) Pollitt of Lewistown; one stepson, Brian (and Natalie) Orwig of Fairview; one brother, Robert (and Connie) Markley of Havana; one sister, Sara Webb of Canton; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one twin sister, Carolyn Bollinger.

She was a secretary at Spoon River College, retiring in 1995.

She attended The Evangelical Free Church in Canton where she worked in the nursery, helped at the children’s church and vacation Bible school.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Brandon Theobold officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Evangelical Free Church in Canton.
