Mrs. Jane E. Oehler, 82, of Astoria, wife of S. E. Oehler, and prominently identified during her lifetime with various church and civic groups in Central Illinois, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday at her home following a prolonged illness.
Some years ago Mrs. Oehler lived in Canton vicinity. For 13 years she served as an officer of the Women’s Home Missionary Society of Central Illinois and was superintendent of the Sunday school of Astoria Methodist church five years, also serving on many church groups. Prior to her illness she was an officer of the Fulton County Union of Women’s Christian’s Temperance Union, and of the Astoria union. She taught school in Astoria many years.
Born in Modena, Ill., Sept. 30, 1872, she was a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Morcon Tregellas. She married Olney Stephens in 1897. He died in 1919. In 1924 she married Mr. Oehler who survives.
Besides her husband she leaves one son, B. W. Stephens, Quincy; two sisters, Mrs. Perle Kilby, Quincy, and Miss Ida M. Tregellas, Astoria; and one brother, Edwin P. Tregellas, Macomb. Five sisters and two brothers are dead.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. W. Leonard. Interment in Astoria cemetery.
