Robert L. “Jake” McCombs, 91, of Astoria died at 10:30 p.m. April 18, 2025, at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.
He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Bader, a son of Edward and Alma Trone McCombs. He married Phylis Hamm on Dec. 17, 1951, in Palmyra, Mo. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2017.
He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Dirke McCombs; one brother, Lawrence Edward McCombs; and one sister, Erma Easley.
Surviving are three children, Barb (and Wayne) Miller of Astoria, Craig (and Nancy) McCombs of Middlebrook, Mo., and Randy (and Janie) McCombs of Browning; four grandchildren, JR McCombs, Jake McCombs, Randy McCombs Jr. and Kayla McCombs: and several great-grandchildren.
He was the owner and operator of Broadway Super Service in Astoria for over 67 years. He enjoyed restoring older cars and working on his cars, other people’s cars and anything that had a motor.
He was a member of the National Street Rod Association.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Sheldons Grove Cemetery.
