Kyle MurfinKyle Eugene Murfin, 60, of Las Cruces, N.M., formerly of Macomb, died June 16, 2019, at his home in Las Cruces.

He was born March 31, 1959, in Macomb, the son of Lyle Eugene and Ruth France Murfin.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Ruth (and Cavitt) Hollis of Macomb; one daughter, Chelsea (and Wesley) Lafayette Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Preston (and Liza) Murfin of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Cheryl (and Garry) Feldman of El Paso, Texas, and Jaci (and Gale) Vaughn of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; and his dear friend, Margaret “Peg” Rushing of Las Cruces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle; and his grandparents, George B. “Benny” (and Eleanor) Murfin and Walter (and Gladys) France.

He graduated from Macomb Senior High School in 1977. His career with the U.S. Army spanned from 1984–94. During his military career, Sgt. Murfin received multiple medals and honors including Army Service Ribbon, Army Superior Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge Rifle. Following his discharge, he became a defense contractor as a Signals Analyst in several locations including Alice Springs, Australia. His most recent professional position was as an Instructor at New Mexico State University.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Rushville HOPE Church (formerly Free Methodist) with Rev. David Ball officiating. Military Honors will follow at the Rushville Veterans Memorial in the Rushville City Cemetery by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and a U.S. Army Honors Detail. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
