Kathryn MarshallKathryn Ann Marshall, 61, died Aug. 18, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., after fighting a short, yet incredibly brave battle with cancer.

She was born July 19, 1957, a daughter of Robert M. and Martha Ann Marshall.

Surviving are her mother, Martha Marshall Sloan of Bushnell; two sisters, Karen (and Albert) Bussone of Normal and Beverly Marshall of Streamwood; two brothers, Robert K. (and Heather) Marshall of Vermont and Philip Marshall of Oshkosh, Wis.; two nieces, Amanda (and Michael) Lorentz of Springfield and Sarah (and Tristan) Estep of Cerro Gordo; and two nephews, Joseph Marshall of Macomb and Peter Bussone of Normal.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert M. Marshall in 2014.

She was raised on a farm outside of Ipava. She was a 1975 graduate of VIT High School in Table Grove and later graduated from Graham School of Nursing in Canton in 1978. She served as a registered nurse for 40 years. She began her career in Des Moines, Iowa, and later moved to El Paso, Texas, to work near her mother’s family for 18 years. She then transitioned to St. Louis, Mo., in 1997 so she could be closer to her immediate family. She worked at Des Peres Hospital for the last 21 years. During her career, she contributed to a range of operating room services, specializing in open-heart, orthopedic and neurological surgery. She eventually managed inventory and surgical supplies as well as trained new surgical nurses.

A visitation will be held Saturday, from 2-4 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with funeral services beginning at 4 p.m. Burial will be at Pennington Point Cemetery in Adair following the service.
