Gerald George “Jerry” McClelland, 81, of Rushville died at 8:19 p.m. May 1, 2016, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Brown County, a son of George B. and Rebecca Armel McClelland. He married Barbara Ann Allen on Jan. 18, 1959, in Springfield. She passed away on Feb. 2, 1997. He then married Carole Joan Berardino on Sept. 27, 1997, in Joliet. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Patricia Mensendike of Crest Hill; three sons, John McClelland and Jimmy (and Kathy) McClelland, both of Joliet, and Scotty McClelland of Romeoville; one stepdaughter, Sharee Santorineos of Rushville; one stepson, Thomas Hillard of Wilmington; one sister, Betsy (and Tom) Bridgewater of Liberty; one brother, Edward (and Genelle) McClelland of Macomb; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Bedenbender, Mildred McClelland and infant Patricia Ann McClelland; and one brother, Donald McClelland.

He graduated from Brown County High School in 1953.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was baptized in Mount Sterling Christian Church in 1949 and was a member of First Church of Christ in Springfield.

He was a captain with the Illinois Department of Corrections in Joliet and was a truck driver for Lockport Trucking, Rushville Truck Lines and L and N Industries.

There will be no services. Inurnment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Ellwood at a later date. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
