Herbert McCombsHerbert Lee McCombs, 85, of Rushville died at 7:48 a.m. June 7, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Woodstock Township, Schuyler County, a son of Bernard and Mary Alice Dickinson McCombs. He married Philena Ward on Aug. 23, 1969, in Oswego. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Mark (and Wendy) McCombs of Odessa, Fla., Robert McCombs of Industry and Tom (and Sherry) Jones of Beardstown; one daughter, Vicki (and Gilbert) Kusibob of Rushville; two brothers, James McCombs of Lee Summit, Mo., and Wendell McCombs of Blandinsville; one sister, Rose Mary Trimble of Peoria; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Pelton; one son, Michael McCombs; one brother, Frank McCombs; two sisters, Carol Ann McCombs and Bernadine Trimble.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a machinist and welder.

He last owned and operated McCombs Machining before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Community of Christ Church in Beardstown. Services were held Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Priest Elizabeth Hagerty officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
