James Moughan

James MoughanJames Joseph Moughan, 78, of Springfield died at 1:48 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008, at home.

He was born May 30, 1930, in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Frances Gause Moughan. He married Helen Miller in 1950. He later married Nelda Aten on Oct. 9, 1975, in Decatur. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Debra (and Dale) Deweese of Linedel, Mo.; four sons, John (and Rita) Moughan of Springfield, David (and Pamela) Moughan of Salisbury, James (and Jeannette) Moughan of Rochester and Mark Moughan of Elkhart; one sister, Patricia Rhoades of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Micheal Lee.

He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Grade School and attended Cathedral. He was a painter/paperhanger and apprenticeship teacher with Painters Union Local 90 over 38 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of IMCA sprint car association racing in over 16 states throughout the midwest winning multiple track championships and hundreds of feature wins until retiring in 1979.

He became a licensed pilot in 1960, building and flying homebuilt aircraft until his death.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Inurnment will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
