Wilfred Maxwell

Wilfred W. Maxwell, 88, of Buffalo Grove, formerly of Astoria, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

He was born June 20, 1913, in Astoria, a son of Elzie and Marnie Welker Maxwell. He married Vadalou Brinton on Jan. 3, 1937, in Macomb. She died Sept. 18, 1993.

He also was preceded in death by four brothers and one infant sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Steinwald of Libertyville; one sister, Wandaleigh Beck of Astoria; and three grandchildren.

He was a 32-year civilian employee of the U.S. Army and the Defense Logistic Supply Agency. He received the Army's Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his 15-year service as deputy director of the Civilian Personnel for the 5th U.S. Army.

He later was vice president of the Bank of Buffalo Grove and the Wheeling Trust and Savings Bank until 1978.

He was a 32nd degree Mason.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Marian Stone officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
