Kevin L. Merrill, 22, of Superior, Wyo., formerly of Astoria, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday, Sept. 18, 1980.
He was married eight days before his death.
He died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital, Rock Springs, Wyo., from the gunshot of a .22-caliber automatic, according to Gerald Smith, Sweetwater County Coroner. The shooting occurred about 11:15 a.m. Thursday.
Merrill was employed by Bridger Coal Co. of Rock Springs.
Born Oct. 21, 1957, in Rushville, a son of Roy L. and Nina Hendricks Merrill, he married Patricia Kay Eller Sept. 10, 1980, in Green River, Wyo.
Surviving are his wife; his parents of Astoria; one brother, Thomas E.; two sisters, Mrs. Norma Onion and Mrs. Cynthia Weaver; and a grandmother, Mrs. Naomi Merrill, all of Astoria.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
