Effie Mercer, Vermont, Former Astorian, Dies

Mrs. Effie Danner Mercer, of Vermont, died early Monday morning in the Graham hospital, following a long illness, aged 82 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Mrs. Mercer was born in Browning township, June 5, 1871, a daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Nancy Whalen Skiles. She was united in marriage to Albert T. Danner, on Nov. 13, 1891. They resided on a farm west of Astoria. No children were born to them. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1930. They raised two children, Effie Arnold, and Johnny Campbell, the latter deceased.

Mrs. Danner's second marriage was to John Mercer of Vermont, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are three stepsons, Charles Mercer of Vermont, William Mercer of California, and Rosa Mercer of Spokane, Wash.

Mrs. Mercer was a member of the E. U. B. church of Oak Grove, and the last of a family of nine children.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, Vermont, conducted by Rev. H. D. Simmons, the pastor. Burial in the family lot in Woodland cemetery.
