Terry LayneCarl T. “Terry” Layne, 78, of Manito, formerly of Rushville, died at 2:22 p.m. Feb. 21, 2024, at Carle Health Center in Pekin.

He was born Jan. 15, 1946, in Haley, Tenn., a son of Carl “Pete” Hampton and Nona Bell Lewis Layne. He married Sharon Trone on April 3, 1965, in Rushville. He later married Pat Tomlinson on July 10, 1986, in Camdenton, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kevin (and Danielle) Layne of Springfield; one daughter, Lisa (and Randall) Thoron of Girard; two stepchildren, Kent (and Debbie) Allen of Jacksonville and Kelley (and Roger) Dunning of Petersburg, Ind.; four brothers, Wayne (and Donna) Layne of Peoria, and Mark (and Rhonda) Layne, Phil (and Jill) Layne and Paul (and Martha) Layne, all of Rushville; one sister, Patti (and Dennis) Kette of Rushville; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1964. He worked for the majority of his career as an electrician with Bohn Heat Transfer in Beardstown and later for Indian Refining in Lawrenceville and Pekin Energy, retiring in 2012.

He was a musician in the band Midnight Blue and enjoyed an eclectic mix of music including: country, rock and roll and gospel. He was a charter member of Rushville Church of the Nazarene. In his earlier years, he coached little league sports and was a Boy Scout leader.

A memorial service honoring his life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Triplett and Wood Funeral Home of Rushville with Bro. Matt Haberman officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Palm Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services at the funeral home on Saturday. A luncheon will be served at Rushville Church of the Nazarene following the services.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For those attending the service, casual attire has been requested by the family.
