Nona LayneNona Belle Layne, 86, of Rushville died at 3:40 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.

She was born May 15, 1923, in Coffee County, Tenn., a daughter of George Washington and Maggie Florence Wilson Lewis. She married Carl H. “Pete” Layne in Rossville, Ga., on Dec. 9, 1944. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1998.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Raymond, Layton and Caroll Lewis; and five sisters, Zette Nevill, Clarice Seymour, Amanda Nevill and two infants.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Layne (and Dennis) Kette of Rushville; five sons, Carl “Terry” (and Patsy) Layne of Manito, Wayne (and Donna) Layne of West Peoria, and Mark (and Rhonda) Layne, Phillip (and Jill) Layne and Paul (and Martha) Layne, all of Rushville; one sister, Shirley (and Ralph) Grier of Rushville; 13 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Rushville Church of the Nazarene where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Missionary Secretary and Steward for many years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Matt Haberman officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
