Mary Lou LongMary Lou Long, 89, of Rushville died at 4:25 a.m. March 25, 2019, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Canton, the daughter of Ralph Homer and Mildred Bernice Huff Shields. She married Jack Long on Feb. 13, 1954, in Havana. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2005.

Surviving are one brother-in-law, Marty Long of Moline; one niece; and several nephews.

She worked at the Havana National Bank for a year and then worked for the National Guard for a year. She was a legal secretary for the next 50 years working for Attorney’s Lachlan Crissey and Albert Scott and Judge William Jewel for five years, Attorney James P. Mourning for 25 years, Attorney Ronald J. Kanoski for seven years and Attorney Scott J. Butler for 14 years. She was a paralegal for the Schuyler County State’s Attorney’s Office under Scott J. Butler, Teena M. Griffin and Ramon M. Escapa until retiring in January of 2018.

She and her husband were successful Standard Bred horse breeders, trainers and racing drivers for their entire married life. She was the Harness Racing Secretary at the Schuyler County Fair for decades.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Eyler officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
