Joseph Ladd

Joseph LaddJoseph K. Ladd, 90, of Macomb died at 2:18 a.m. May 18, 2014, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Farmers Township, Fulton County, a son of Joseph Karr and Maude G. Warner Ladd. He married Freida L. Ebbert on Dec. 29, 1944. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Dan (and Diane) Ladd of Westminster, Colo., Steve (and Beth) Ladd of Berlin, Md., and William (and Charmaine Smith) Ladd of Inverness, Fla.; two brothers, Benjamin (and Linda) Ladd of the state of Oregon and Jim (and Linda) Ladd of Chicago; five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Ladd; one grandson; one sister; and two brothers.

He farmed on the family farm in Ipava. He then worked for Trevor Jones Poultry as farm manager and then was manager at True-Value Hardware in Havana for many years, retiring in 1988. After retiring, he and his wife spent their summers in Colorado as volunteers for National Forest Service as Trail Head Hosts. They were given the Regional Honor Award by National Forest Service for 20 years service.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery.
