Donald LindseyDonald E. Lindsey, 81, of Astoria died at 1:10 p.m. Jan. 4, 2011, at Astoria Gardens and Rehab.

He was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Ipava, a son of Kenneth and Mary Heath Lindsey. He married Barbara Thompson on Oct. 13, 1951, in Rushville. She died on Aug. 18, 1989. He later married Melba Batterton on June 22, 1991, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Ronald (and Janet) Lindsey of Industry; one daughter, Vicky (and Rod) Scott of Sarasota, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Debbie (and Don) Ulm of Macomb; three stepsons, Brad (and Tina) Batterton, Billy (and Tammy) Batterton and Jeff (and Twila) Batterton, all of Astoria; one brother, Dale (and Sharon) Lindsey of Astoria; four grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Lindsey.

He worked at Astoria Fibra-Steel Company for over 20 years. He also worked as a sheet-metal worker at L and N Industries in Rushville until his retirement.

He was a member of Astoria Christian Church for over 50 years and Astoria American Legion Post #25.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1952 until 1953 during the Korean conflict. His rank was Sergeant with Battery C of the 38th Field Artillery Battalion.

Services were held Saturday at his church with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Christian Church or the Activity Fund at Astoria Gardens.
