Robert LangRobert K. “Curly” Lang, 80, of Rushville died at 12:15 p.m., Sept. 30, 2009, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

He was born on June 18, 1929, in Rushville Township, Schuyler County, the son of Bert and Hazel McMeins Lang. He married Iris A. Ingles on Aug. 26, 1950, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Valerie J. Sprinkle and Melody A. Burke, both of Rushville and Kevin T. (and Mary) Lang of Bartonville; one brother, Harold E. Lang of Rushville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Burton and Richard Lang.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He worked at Mickleberry’s in Rushville from 1950 to 1969. In 1969, he began working at Bartlow Brothers, Inc. first as a truck driver then in 1978 he became a sales representative for 13 years retiring in 1991. He also worked as custodian of First United Methodist Church for 10 years, and volunteered at Schuyler American Legion.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rushville.

He was a 50-year member and past commander of Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and for many years served on its funeral honors detail; 40 et 8, Gutherie-Pierce VFW in Beardstown; an original member of Scripps Park Men’s Twilight Golf League; several bowling leagues; and Rushville Moose Lodge 506.

For many years he managed Minor League and Little League baseball teams and played in a men’s fast pitch softball league.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services were held Saturday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with military rites by Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Private services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Rushville City Cemetery.
