Dwain Landes

Dwain W. “Dewey” Landes, 77, of Beardstown died at 7:57 p.m. June 10, 2007, at St. John’s Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Beardstown, a son of Kent and Lutie Waugh Landes. He married Wanda Farwell Heffren on Sept. 28, 1972, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one step-daughter, Brenda (and Gary) McDonald of Rushville; one step-son, Robert P. (and Leann) Heffren of Ripley; four brothers, Harold “Bud,” Arthur “Bumps” (and Jackie), Raymond (and Carolyn) and Bob (and Mary), all of Beardstown; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon, Jack and Jimmie; and two sisters, Violet McClure and Louise Hagerman.

He worked at The Mill in Beardstown and later worked for Oscar Mayer in Beardstown until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Beardstown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at his church with Pastor Roger Barnes officiating.Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Browning Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church.
