VeteranMelvin “Hap” Lau Dies Nov. 8

Melvin E. “Hap” Lau, 89, of Astoria, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 1991, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Aug. 15, 1902, near Astoria to Edmond and Ollie May Parr Lau.

Surviving are one niece, Rosalie Brush of Bushnell; and one nephew, Les Bellville of Princeville.

One sister preceded him in death.*

A World War II veteran, he was a logger and worked at a tree nursery.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria, with Rev. Jim Comstock officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery in Summum.
