John KirkhamJohn C. Kirkham, 88, of Rushville died at 8:50 p.m. Aug. 3, 2021, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County, a son of Ephraim and Irene Newingham Kirkham. He married Rosalie Goldsborough on Dec. 30, 1954. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 1983. He later married Ruth Goldsborough Evans on April 14, 1985. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2013.

He also was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Darla Irene Kirkham; two sisters, Letha Dupoy and Gladys Utter; and seven brothers, Desmond, Roy, Henry, Ephraim, Robert, Verlin and Edgar Kirkham.

Surviving are two sons, Rob (and Sue) Kirkham and Kevin (and Darla) Kirkham, both of Rushville; four sisters, Sara Kruse of Beardstown, Glenna (and Robert) Little of Fort Meyers, Fla., Vada Downs of Rushville and Zelda (and Harold) Bishop of Bensen, La.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Rushville High School with the class of 1950. He was a Navy veteran serving from 1951-55. When he returned from the military, he worked at Bartlow Brothers Meat Packing in Rushville. Later he was employed at Oscar Mayer, Excel and Cargill, all in Beardstown.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial followed in Rushville City Cemetery with military honors by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and U.S. Navy Honors Detail.

Memorials may be made to Schuyler Humane Society or Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.
