Mary Knous

Mary KnousMary Thompson Knous, 80, of Rushville died at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 29, 2012, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

She was born March 27, 1932, in Mount Sterling, a daughter of Otto and Frances Hammer Shoopman. She married Albert Thompson on Oct. 9, 1954. He passed away on Oct. 11, 1983. She later married James "Brusier" Knous on March 28, 1992, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Candy (and Jon) Ackman of Rushville and Jan Thompson (and Jeanne Esquivel) of O'Fallon; three sons, Scott (and Ruth) Thompson of Rushville, Mark (and Lori) Thompson of Augusta and Doug (and Jill) Knous of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Pat Parker of Mount Sterling and Betty (and Clarence) Parker of Clayton; two brothers, Jerry (and Lila) Shoopman of Mount Sterling and Louis "Butch" Shoopman of Springfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Thompson; one sister, June Traylor; and five brothers, Robert, Donald, Eugene, Richard and Orville Shoopman.

She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949 and St. Mary's Hospital Nursing School in Quincy on Sept. 5, 1953.

She was employed as a registered nurse at Culbertson Memorial Hospital from 1954 until retiring in 1992. She also was a Mary Kay Consultant for many years.

She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Red Hat Society. She was a former Schuyler County Republican Precinct Committeeperson and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

A Catholic service was held Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Father Gabriel Msoka officiating.
