M. R. Kessler Dies At Age 77

M. R. “Ray” Kessler, 77, of Astoria, former Woodland Township supervisor, died early Saturday morning in the Culbertson Hospital in Rushville following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Kessler was born Nov. 7, 1893, and had resided his entire lifetime in the Astoria area.

For many years he operated a poultry and cream station. He was married to Alethia Keefer, who is deceased.

Surviving are a grandson, Richard Beaird of Springfield, a half brother, Sam Kessler of Astoria, two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. A daughter died previously.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Summum Christian Church with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
