Josephine JohnsonJosephine “Giugi” Gagliano Johnson, 92, of Rushville died at 8:32 p.m. Jan. 5, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

She was born Jan. 8, 1929, in New York, N.Y., a daughter of Italian immigrants LeoLuca and Lucia Gulotta Gagliano. She married Robert Lloyd Johnson on Dec. 15, 1951, in West Point, N.Y. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2007.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Fabienné Brush; three brothers, Joseph Gagliano, Vincent Gagliano and Louis Gagliano; and one sister, Annette L. Gagliano.

Surviving are two sons, Peter G. (and Sonya) Johnson of Rushville and Robert L. (and Carolyn) Johnson Jr. of Freeport; one daughter, Enid L. (and Warren) Martin of Versailles; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Associate to the Anglican Order of the Holy Name in Melbourne Australia, Commission on Ministry and Standing Committee, Co-chairman of the Capital Campaign Fund, Diocese of Quincy and President of the NATO Military Attaché Women’s Club in Brussels, Belgium. She also was on the Committee of the Art at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, was a founding member of the Rushville Pregnancy Resource Center and a board member of the Rushville Federation of Women. She was a member of the Peoria Journal Star Women’s Advisory Board in Peoria and a member of the Australian-American Club in Melbourne, Australia.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. George’s Anglican Church in Macomb with Father Bill Anderson officiating. A funeral luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. at Rushville Church of Christ following the funeral service. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
