JOSEPHINE D. (MATEJEWSKI) FILKER JACKSON

Josephine Jackson

Josephine D. Jackson, 74, of Hanna City, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Gilchrist, a daughter of Mike and Anna Lesko Matejewski. She married Harold C. Filker in 1943. He died in 1953. She later married Furman P. Jackson. He also preceded her in death, as did one grandchild, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are four sons, Harold C. Filker, Michael J. Filker and Richard A. Filker, all of Hanna City, and Steven A. Filker of Yates City; two daughters, Peggy D. Elliott of Springfield and Charlotte D. Wilkinson of Canton; two brothers, Bill Matejewski of Fiatt and Lyle Matejewski of Dallas City; four sisters, Irene Wheeler of Canton, Mable Pike of Bartonville, Lillian Scalf of Tucson, Ariz., and Violet Saville of Table Grove; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was a nursing supervisor for the State of Illinois, working at Bartonville and Galesburg mental health centers for 25 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at her church with Rev. Thomas F. Kelly officiating. Recitation of the rosary was held. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington.

Memorials may be made to her church building fund.
