VeteranW. Dean Johnson Of Canton Dies

W. Dean Johnson, 69, of rural Canton died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 1990 at Sunset Nursing Home in Canton.

He was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Trivoli Township, Peoria County, a son of Ray and Alice Lee Ashton Johnson. He married Ila Snider on Oct. 28, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Sandra Bonney and Pamela Miller, both of rural Lewistown, and Jean Bunge of rural Canton; one son Phillip, and one brother, William F. Johnson, both of Lewistown; two stepbrothers, Bernard Roberts of Canton and Roy Roberts of Farmington; two sisters, Della L. McLene of Bloomington and Rose M. Capron of Farmington; one stepsister, Mildred Lockard of Ipava; seven grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one stepsister.

A farmer in Lewistown area, he retired in June 1984 and was a past president of the Illinois Farmers Union. He was a past president of Lewistown High School Board where he served two terms.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, AF&AM, in Lewistown and a former member of Ducks Unlimited and the Riflemen’s Association. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Oaks Memorial Chapel with Rev. Oral Wilcoxen officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
