VeteranMaurice Jones Of Lewistown Dies

Maurice E. Jones, 69, of Lewistown, died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 1990, in Lewistown.

He was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Lewistown, a son of George L. and Georgia F. Yocum Jones. He married Dorothy Breckenridge on Jan. 15, 1947, in Farmer City. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vicky Lynn Bradshaw of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a truck driver for the Vermont Mine of Amax Coal Co., retiring in 1982. He served in the Army Infantry in the Pacific Theater during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown where he served as an elder, chairman of the elders, trustee and was a member of the church’s adult choir.

He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1337 in Vermont, Lewistown Masonic Lodge 104, AF&AM, and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Barbara Short officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.

Memorials may be made to his church or the Fulton County Heart Association.
