George Hopps

George HoppsGeorge B. Hopps, 85, of Snicarte died March 10, 2024, at the Havana Health Care Center with family by his side.

He was born Dec. 6, 1938, in White City, a son of Jarveaux and Edith Smith Perkins Hopps.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Stubbs) Hopps; two brothers, Jim Perkins and Jay Hopps; four sisters, Mildred Perkins, Doris Graham, Jean Lowe and Gloria McMullen-Johnson; and one great-grandchild.

Surviving are one brother, Michael (and Faye) Hopps of Chandlerville; four sons, Jeff (and Tina) Hopps of Snicarte, Eric (and Sierra) Hopps of Tecumseh, Neb., Mark Hopps of Beardstown and Ryan (and Valerie) Hopps of Bath; four daughters, Lisa Hopps of Petersburg, Angie (and Dave) Hallmark of Ipava, Monica (and Bryan) Ladd of Havana and Carrolyn (and Tim) Royer of Astoria; 22 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He spent many years as a carpenter before being employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation as a highway maintenance worker where he retired after 20 years of service in 1998.

Services were held Friday at Hopewell Baptist Church in Snicarte. Burial was in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery in rural Chandlerville. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made in George’s name to Hopewell Baptist Church.
