Eugene Hulvey, 91, of Camden died Dec. 24, 2022, at Country Gardens in Rushville.

He was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Schuyler County, a son of Guy James and Marie Florence Smith Hulvey.

He married Betty Reeder on Nov. 4, 1951. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1971. He later married Elaine Unger on Oct. 4, 1974. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2003.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Maynard Hulvey; and stepfather, William Roudebush.

Surviving are three children, Charlotte (and Richard) Tillitt of Murphysboro, and Shiela (and Tim) Ward and Doug (and Lynai) Hulvey, both of Rushville; one sister, Marlene Briggs of Macomb; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Maggie Michel of Rushville.

He attended Rushville High School. He farmed in Camden from 1950 to 2000 taking off two years from 1952-1954 to serve his country in the Korean War. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Company B, 223rd Infantry Regiment, 40th Division. He received the Korean Service Medal, One Bronze Battle Star, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, three Medals of Courage and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of the former Bethany Bible Church, which was near his home, for 50 years. When the church closed, he transferred his membership to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a member for the past 15 years.

He farmed and worked outdoors.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Triplett & Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Reverend Bill Rucker officiating at Triplett & Wood Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Cass-Schuyler Hospice or to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Rushville.
