Alvin HamiltonAlvin Richard Hamilton, 89, of Rushville died at 3:15 a.m. Oct. 26, 2019, at the Elms Nursing Facility in Macomb.

He was born April 27, 1930, in East St. Louis, a son of Hallbrook and Lena White Hamilton. He married Barbara Beckerdite on April 15, 1951, in Rushville. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2010.

Surviving are two sons, Richard (Rick) Hamilton of London Mills and Steve (and Yvonne) Hamilton of Rushville; two daughters, Beverly (and Dana) Roudebush of Macomb and Nancy (and Ted) Trone of Rushville; one brother, Donald (and Fran) Hamilton of Macomb; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

At age 4, after his mother passed away, he took the train to live with his grandmother Ada Hamilton in Augusta. He also was raised by his Aunt Ava and Uncle Keith Hamilton. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1948.

He was employed by Bartlow Brothers Meat Packing Company in Rushville for18 years and Oscar Mayer in Beardstown for five years. He then spent 30 years with Schuyler Unit District #1 where he drove a school bus and was head of transportation the last five years of his employment there. He volunteered at the Rushville HELP Center, delivered mobile meals for the hospital and was a Boy Scout leader for Littleton Troop 64 for many years. He served on Ebenezer United Methodist Church Board and the North West Water Association Board. In 1987 one of his bus riders wrote a letter that awarded him the Rushville Chamber of Commerce Father of the Year.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Brooklyn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services on Friday.
