He was born May 3, 1951, in Beardstown, a son of Harold Eugene and Ruth Bunnell Higgins. He married Linda Wells on April 27, 1973, in Virginia, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Matthew Higgins of Kansas City, Mo., Adam Higgins of Quincy and James Higgins of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Ruth (and Luke) Higgins Lashbrook of Rushville; one brother, Kent (and Phyllis) Higgins of Littleton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Higgins.
He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years, retiring as a locomotive engineer in 2011.
Funeral services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Larry W. Moore officiating. Burial was in Blackburn Cemetery.
