Mabel Ross HeathMabel E. Ross Heath, 85, of El Dorado, Kan., formerly of Rushville, died at 7:40 a.m. Feb. 7, 2013, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Buena Vista Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of John and Charlotte Tucker Ross. She married Joseph Heath on Jan. 9, 1960, in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1992.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Ross.

Surviving are three stepdaughters, including Melody (and Scot) Hays of Wichita, Kan.; one stepson; two brothers, Byron Ross and Maurice Ross, both of Rushville; two sisters, Lela Tomlinson of Palmyra, Mo., and Ruth (and Richard) Diseron of Huntsville; eight step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

She grew up in Rushville, graduating in 1945. She taught for two years at Flatwoods and West Center schools, later moving to Kansas. She was co-owner and operator of El Dorado Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Service for many years, retiring in 2003.

She was a member of Harvest Chapel in Christ Church in El Dorado.

Services were held Saturday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Rosalee Ross officiating. Graveside committal services were held Monday at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado, Kan., with Pastor John Hurst officiating.
