Ernest "Red" HallarErnest J. "Red" Hallar, 88, of Canton died at 4 a.m. Jan. 7, 2013, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Lewistown, a son of Ernest L. and Mary E. Ginglen Hallar. He married Vera Wrestler. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1977. He later married Nona Helle on Feb. 14, 1985, in Yuma, Ariz. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald Stambaugh of Cuba and Thomas (and Mary Kay) Stambaugh of Canton; one sister, Wanda Ziegenhorn of Macomb; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Keith Stambaugh; one brother, William R. Hallar; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a union brick layer for over 60 years before retiring.

He was a 1942 graduate of Lewistown High School, and was a former member of Canton Moose Lodge and Canton Eagles Lodge.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Bob Miner officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
