Harold L. Hart, 90, of Ipava died at 7:50 p.m. Sept. 2, 2010, at Havana Healthcare Center.

He was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Isabel Township of Fulton County, a son of Lewis A. and Myrtle Estelle Franklin Hart. He married Peggy Trone on Dec. 28, 1946, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving is one son, Bruce Hart of Gridley.

He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Bill Cox and Orville Cox.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the 3rd Infantry Division from 1941 to 1945. During this time, he participated in five campaigns and four amphibious landings in Africa, Sicily and Italy. He received two Presidential Unit Citations and a Combat Medal.

He graduated in 1940 from University of Illinois with a bachelors degree in agriculture.

He worked for the Soil Conservation Service of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture for 40 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Summum Christian Church, where he taught an adult Sunday school class for 40 years; organized the South Fulton Water District; and was a trustee of Summum Cemetery Board for 45 years.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Ken Peterson officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery in Astoria.
