MARY (BOO) HAPKE SMITH

Mary HapkeMary Hapke, 83, of rural Lewistown died at 10:48 a.m. Oct. 31, 2007, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born June 25, 1924, in Lewistown, a daughter of Joseph S. and Helen Merrill Boo. She married Melvin Hapke on May 5, 1946. He died Aug. 1, 1972. She later married Maurice Smith on Oct. 6, 1997. He died Jan. 26, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Hapke.

Surviving are one son, Joseph (and Janis) Hapke of Peoria; one daughter, Rhonda Hapke of Lewistown; one brother, Max (and Shirley) Boo of Lewistown; one sister, Harriet (and Bill) Wolf of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Waterford Union Church in rural Lewistown. She had been a hospice volunteer for several years, and active in child evangelism.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. John Vaughn officiating. Graveside services were held Monday at LaSalle Cemetery in rural Chillicothe.
