William Ross Hammond, 74, of Pekin died at 7 a.m. Jan. 9, 2007, at Pekin Hospital.

He was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Vermont, a son of William Norvin and Nelda Lucille Wrestler Hammond. He married Norma Jean Sullivan on Feb. 18, 1955, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, William of Big Rock, Tenn., and Mark of rural Manito.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Wallace.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

He retired Aug. 1, 1992, from Caterpillar Inc. with 41 years of service, last working as a technician in the gear lab in East Peoria.

Services were held Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel with Rev. Terry Edele officiating. Graveside services were held Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Astoria with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post 25.
