Annie Hughes

Annie Lucile Hughes, 96, of Rushville, died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at the Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Sept. 4, 1900, in Nashville, Tenn.; the daughter of George W. and Susie L. (Guthrie) Watson. She married Horatio Howard Hughes on Dec. 26, 1922, in Nashville, Tenn. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1974. Also preceding her in death were one son, Buford Hughes; one daughter, Elizabeth Serrot; and one brother, Clarence Watson.

Surviving are three sons, Douglas Hughes of Anderson, Calif., George Hughes of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Richard Hughes of Browning; two daughters, Mrs. Dick (Sadie) Mendenhall and Mary Hughes, both of Rushville; 18 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She attended the Grandview Baptist Church in Nashville.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Cass-Schuyler Home Health Care or Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
