Dick MendenhallDick Leroy Mendenhall, 73, of Rushville died at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008, at his home.

He was born July 24, 1935, in Macomb, a son of William Brown and Emma Olena Bridgewater Mendenhall. He married Sadie Hughes on May 5, 1956, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Randy (and Jenny) Mendenhall of Hermiston, Ore., and Don (and Mary) Mendenhall of Bushnell; two daughters, Teresa (and Bob) Doyle of Macomb and Christy (and Mark) Feigl of Rushville; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Keith, Bob, Bill, Joe Richard, Victor and Virgil; and three sisters, Bertha Mendenhall, Venita Green and Dorothy McCormick.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He was a repairman for Grate’s Service in Rushville for many years. He was the first director and EMT with Schuyler County Ambulance Service. He later worked for Bower’s in Macomb. He and his wife owned and operated S & D Muffler Shop in Rushville from where he retired.

He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and VFW. He served as an auxiliary police officer for City of Rushville, and attended Rushville sporting events.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Burial Detail and Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of First Bankers Trust.
