Gilbert Hoke

Gilbert S. Hoke, 81, of 1360 Montello Court, Canton, died at 10:36 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1996, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born March 22, 1914, in Fulton County, the son of Samuel and Virginia Onion Hoke. He married Eulala Norris on Feb. 11, 1950, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marty (Judy) White of Canton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, George Hoke and one sister.

A carpenter, he worked out of Carpenter’s Union Local 644 in Pekin for 45 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Morning Star Lodge 734, AF&AM, Royal Arch Lodge in Yates City and the Fulton County Flying Club. He was a member of First Congregational United Church.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Jane Courtright officiating. Masonic services were held. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Service Program or any charity.

Gilbert’s parents were former Astoria residents and had many relatives in the area.
