Ethel Henderson Of Bushnell Dies

Ethel Henderson, 84, of rural Bushnell died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, April 20, 1990, at her home.

She was born May 30, 1905, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Ann Walton Cox. She married Harry Henderson on March 20, 1931, in Scotland Township in Schuyler County. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elise) Henderson of Macomb and Mrs. Ken (Harriet) Oblak of Elyria, Ohio; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Homer Cox of Browning and Ralph Cox of Astoria; and one sister, Mrs. Wilber (Doris) Morris of Browning.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She taught school for 16 years in several one-room McDonough County schools while receiving her education at Western Illinois State Teachers College. She received her bachelor of arts degree in 1942. A teacher for 38 years, she worked for the Bushnell-Prairie City schools until retiring in 1970.

She was inducted into Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi and was a member of Browning Church of Christ and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was a life-member of Bushnell-Prairie City Teachers Association and a long-time member of the Camp Creek Love and Service Class.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.

Memorials may be made to the Browning Church of Christ, Macomb Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
