VeteranHallie B. Horner Dies At Age 74

Hallie Brenton Horner, 74, a lifelong Astoria resident, died at noon Wednesday, April 8, in theh Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 22, 1896, in Vermont Township, the son of Martin and Mary (Brenton) Horner. He was married July 4, 1921, to Nellie Hendee, who survives.

One son, Bennie J. Horner of Astoria, also survives, along with five sisters, Mrs. Irma Bucy of Vermont, Mrs. Mildred Bricker of Havana, Mrs. Ethel Brillhart of Galesburg, Miss Wilma Horner of Astoria, and Mrs. Greta Butler of Astoria; and one brother, Lloyd Horner, Havana.

One son and one daughter died earlier.

Horner was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post 25, Astoria.

The 2 p.m. services were held Friday in the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Lamoyne Cox officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
