Mrs. Minnie Howe, Of Summum, Dies Saturday

Mrs. Minnie Howe, 74, of Summum, died Saturday morning in the St. Francis hospital, Macomb, following a long illness.

Minnie Martin Howe was born in Woodland township, Jan. 30, 1881. Minnie was the eldest of five children born to Manning and Catherine (Porter) Martin. She grew up and spent her entire life in this community.

On Jan. 30, 1898 she was united in marriage to Amos Howe, who preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1940. to this union eight children were born: Alex and Harold of Havana, Gladys of Bryant, Grafton of Bushnell, Catherine of Quincy and Frances of Summum. Two children preceded her in death, Mabel Amanda Porter, and Stanley, who gave his life in the service of his country in World War II; one brother and two sisters survive, Ethel Mummert of Macomb, Birdie Beaty of Summum, and Ed Martin of Dallas City. She also leaves to mourn her passing, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Mrs. Howe placed her trust in God early in life and lived a life true to His faith.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Summum Christian church, conducted by Rev. Hobart Scrogum, assisted by Rev. James Boyer. Burial in Hickory cemetery.

SUMMUM — Services for Mrs. Minnie Howe were held at the church Monday afternoon. She had been ill for a long time and spent many weeks in the St. Francis hospital. She had hosts of friends who will mourn her passing as she, like her mother (Mrs. Kate Martin) always thought of the less fortunate and the shut-ins and tried to brighten their path.
