Aged Astoria Woman Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Susanna Horton Found Dead In Bed Friday Morning

Mrs. Susanna Horton was found dead in bed, about 5 o’clock Friday morning at her home in Astoria. She was aged 85 years, 10 months and 23 days.

Susanna Stoops, daughter of Michael and Sarah Gore Stoops, was born near Ipava, Ill., Feb. 7, 1853. She was one of a family of five girls, all who have preceded her in death.

On Sept. 23, 1875 she was united in marriage to Thomas Jefferson Horton at Lewistown. To this union seven children were born, five of whom are living. Dallas of Astoria, Donovan of Peoria, Mrs. Etta Heath of Omaha, Nebr., Cline, and Josie Curless of Astoria. Besides her five children she is survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also many loving friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Horton lived on a farm two miles east of Astoria until 1904 when they moved into town where they lived until Mr. Horton’s death, Jan. 17, 1920. Since his demise Mrs. Horton has occupied the family home of her daughter Josie.

Mrs. Horton was a member of the Astoria Christian church, which she joined at an early age and took an active part for many years in the work she loved.

She was a devoted wife, mother and friend, respected by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at the late home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. L. A. Crown. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.
