Barbara GreeneBarbara Joan Lucas Greene, 85, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Illinois, died at 1:18 p.m. Feb. 27, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was born March 31, 1938, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Margaret L. Abbott Lucas and Theodore D. Lucas of Mount Sterling. They preceded her in death. She married Wilbur L. Rigg in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1959. She married Robert B. Harris in 1961, and married Walter Ben Greene in 1994. They are both deceased.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Michael S. Rigg; and one brother, Robert E. Lucas.

Surviving are her children, Jeffery L. Rigg of Mount Sterling, Laura J. Thomas of Astoria, Theodore D. (and Lois) Rigg of Temple, Texas, Dierdre L. Harris of Dunfermline, Nancy J. Harris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Anthony A. Greene (stepson) of Peoria; two brothers, John A. (and Ellen) Lucas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and George (and Helen) Lucas of Rushville; one sister, Dorothy K. Lambert of Hartford City, Ind.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was employed by The Illinois Department of Public Health for 10 years as a microfilming operator. She was employed by The State of Illinois Department of Mental Health and Disabilities in Springfield and also the State of Illinois Department of Human Services in Peoria. Since 1988, she worked as a registered nurse until retiring in 2004.

She was a graduate of Springfield Adult Education Center through Brown County High School in 1967. She attended Spoon River College and was the recipient of the Margarita Award given by the Altrusa Club at her LPN graduation. She also was a graduate of St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing in Peoria in 1985 and also attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria.

Cremation will be accorded and will be interred at Stersman Cemetery in Mount Sterling. A private family remembrance celebration will be held at a later date.
